Its Rats vs. Meow

If this movie would have been made, some 5 years back, (Daag, the fire), I thought this makes a nice subtitle, well well, I was planning to watch it with Ginger in a theater, but my plan as always dint work out. here on TV, a girl shouts, "if you haven't watched this movie till now, just shoot yourself". hmm.. I wonder she was just about to do so. OK! So I just download it and Aamir, here for you my heartiest apologies...sorry Aamir...well, so those who haven't shot themselves by now, I mean offcoz who have already seen the movie "Jaane tu .. yaa jaane na" might corelate with this post, for those who havent', please I am not convicting this one. and this is no review post either. I am just sharing the relative thought of mine.

first of all, one thing I don't really understand, if there is anything unique I can keep with myself and which I can be possessive about. the song which they inherited the title from, is one of two of my favorite songs, from the very childhood days, its feels awful when you're favorite is someone elses too. and believe its as bad as i feel sharing my ginger tea with vidya balan in guru. :( or the looking up philosphy with kareena kapoor in jab we met, or may be some bits n pieces of life with preity zinta in kabhi alvida na kahna ( ::). ok Now you'd say that, every character is made-up to relate it with a comman man/woman. anyways, good to see am neither the rats or the meow of the movie.

frankly, If I have to list out what all I like about the movie, then it would be

• fresh faces, the whole new bunch, specially Imraan, who I feel is better than all of ranbir, harman, and neil offcoz he did a good job in johny gaddar.
  
• music which is simple with no electronic beats and i can identify each instruments supporting the vocals,
• naseeruddin paint act with supriya pathak ( i hope m right, better to call, mrs maya sarabhai) though i was like i have seen this where? and my brother reminded of some kadar khan's movie, and later i could realize this trick is there in hum paanch the serial as well.
• and last but not the least, the Rajput connection, specially with sohal and arbaaz.
  

So I m sure, by now everyone knows Ranjhor and the brave Rathores of ranjhor. well thats what the movies general do. but I am a little specular about this whole Rajput (we call thakur mostly) stint in the cinema. Rajputs are more known for their characteristics and attitude than any other caste if I am not wrong. and why thats so. the answer probably is movies. I am sure history has a lot in store, but who'm so ever has written the history might have been partial to both rajputs and at the same time against them too. Till now chauhans' (prithiviraj) shishodia (a character in remix serial), rathores, and another couple of the surnames which are been popularized by the movies, and lot others are yet to get their share of fame.

If we go through the general characters potrayal in the movies, they are either of those hi-fi villains (the atyachaari jamindaar types, daakus). In case of hero's, then the ones who'd do or die, well, not many heroines this time around, but only those of yester years (well, I am not sure, how much of real jodha they have shown in the movie jodha akbar). this portrayal of rothores is little different but again ends up with that old style of the worrier formations. and why not, if thats what is the reality, even sunidhi's fearless voice might prove it.

let me get you in to some reality, the goods and the bads, of and about this caste and with utmost honesty, (because thats the part of our nature ;)), yes me too belong to this community and i feel I am half of Naseeruddin and half of Imran in total. My father and my uncle had done every bit of power-show in and out of their village in their whole entire life and they feel very proud of it. This year only, when I got a chance to spend some good 15 days with my uncle, he loaded me with the stories of his yester years and how they used to dominate the whole village and whom all did he fought with. offcoz they dint use sword, they were the body builder types. another uncle of mine who's a pundit but from the same place used to tell me, that even what shown in the movies was not all that wrong, and exploitation of the lower caste was quite normal but offcoz it doesnt reach the xtreme as its shown in the movies i.e. the rapes and loots and all are not really true.

the questioning of the attitude of a thakur, as it goes, remains the same, like it is quoted by Naseer" you cant take ranjhor out of rathore", the point is, its visible by one thing or the other, but its not only the fighting spirit, its the other characteristics as well though call them good or bad for this time. and its the life's choices as well. I know only mention of it that my mom's from chambal area, does enough to raise some eyebrows around. though the truth is her village is around 300 km from where chambal flows ;)
